Based in Austin, The McKinleys have spent over a decade shaping a sound we call Cosmic Americana — a hand‑picked blend of bluegrass, country, spirited fiddle tunes, and acoustic interpretations of artists from the Grateful Dead, The Byrds, and great songwriters like Gram Parsons, John Prine, and Townes Van Zandt.

We make music that invites people to linger — kids dancing to a fiddle tune, neighbors swapping stories, and friends settling into the evening. Our shows are interactive and responsive; we take requests, read the room, and enjoy connecting with the people we’re playing for. We know hundreds of songs — yes, hundreds — and people come to hear us because the music is familiar, genuinely fun, and played well. You’ll hear everything from old‑time reels to Americana classics — White Freightliner, Poncho & Lefty, Ripple, Friend of the Devil— alongside Gram Parsons’ cosmic country, Townes’ quiet heartbreak, and the Appalachian traditions of Doc Watson and Norman Blake.

Trusted by Austin organizations and private hosts, we’re a fixture on Austin porches and for more than 6 years, at Counter Café West. We accommodate the mood — lighting it up for pre‑wedding parties, graduations, and lively celebrations, or gently pulling back for cocktail hours, family backyards, and contemplative evenings. Honest, unpretentious, and practiced, The McKinleys deliver exceptionally good, conversation‑friendly music. Let The McKinleys bring the Cosmic Americana vibe to your next event.
